Our Standards
Quality Experiences, Verified by Us
Every tour operator on Yovu is reviewed against our quality and sustainability standards. We verify real practices — not purchased badges — so you can book with confidence.
What This Means for You
Authentic Experiences
Every operator is verified as a genuine local business. No corporate tour factories pretending to be local.
Money Stays Local
Your booking supports local guides, small businesses, and communities — not distant shareholders.
Responsible Tourism
Operators commit to environmental care and cultural respect. Travel that is good for everyone.
What We Verify
Our review process covers four key areas. Operators document their practices, and we verify them.
Local Community
- Run by locals who know the region — not remote corporate operators
- Local guides, partners, or collaborators are fairly compensated
- Revenue benefits the local economy, not just foreign owners
- Pricing is fair and does not undercut local businesses
Environmental Care
- Minimized single-use plastic where the operator has control
- Waste management practices documented and followed
- No wildlife exploitation — no captive animals or habitat disruption
- Lower-emission options used where operationally viable
Cultural Respect
- Local culture presented authentically, not packaged for entertainment
- Community consent obtained for cultural or heritage experiences
- Sacred or restricted sites accessed only with permission
Transparency
- Claims backed by documentation, not just marketing copy
- Transparent about operational constraints and limitations
- Verified by practice, not purchased certificates
- Regular reviews to maintain standards
Real Tourism, Real Constraints
We do not require perfection. Real-world tourism has real-world constraints. A walking tour whose guests arrive by ferry has emissions the operator cannot control. A historic site tour may have limited accessibility. These are operational realities, not failures.
What we do require is transparency. If an operator has constraints, we ask them to document them clearly. Openness about limitations is far more valuable than purchased certificates that paper over reality.
We also do not penalize operators for lacking formal certifications. Many excellent small operators have never paid for a certificate — they just run genuinely good operations. We evaluate practice, not paperwork.
Partner Tiers
Operators earn higher tiers by meeting more of our sustainability commitments. Higher tiers mean stronger verification — look for the tier badge on each listing.
