Choose the area before you choose the room
Where you stay shapes the trip more than the room does. A good neighbourhood saves you transfers, puts food within walking distance and makes early starts for tours painless. A beautiful room in the wrong area costs you time every single day.
Our city guides include a where-to-stay page for each destination, explaining which areas suit first-time visitors, families, couples and longer stays. Read that first, then use the search above with the area in mind.
Which type of stay fits your trip
Hotels are the simplest choice for short city breaks. Apartments make sense when you stay several nights, travel as a group or want a kitchen. Villas, cabins and glass igloos are destinations in themselves, best for trips built around the place you sleep.
- Hotels: flexible check-in, daily service, often the easiest option for one to three nights.
- Apartments: more space and a kitchen, usually better value for groups and stays of four nights or more.
- Hostels and guesthouses: lower cost and a chance to meet other travellers, with shared facilities in many cases.
- Villas, cabins and igloos: remote or unusual stays where location and facilities matter more than city access.
What to check before you book
Read the cancellation terms and the exact location, not just the star rating. Check the distance to public transport, whether breakfast and Wi-Fi are included, and the check-in window if you arrive late. For remote stays, confirm how you will get there without a car.
If you plan to join tours, look at where they start. A stay near the usual meeting points means a calmer morning and often a cheaper transfer.
